Eight days after my first daughter was born, my husband snapped this tender picture of us, unbeknownst to me. From the outside, my daughter looks like a peaceful angel, and I, an adoring new mom. But inside, I was falling apart. My daughter was tongue-tied and breastfeeding was painful; she had a milk allergy (that we didn’t discover until a few weeks later) and cried in pain all the time; and she didn’t sleep at all during the nights. I was also suffering from the baby blues. In this rare peaceful moment, I was looking at her and thinking “How am I going to do this?”
Luckily for me, my family and friends got me through those rough first few weeks and the entire year I breastfed. Without their unending support, I probably would have quit breastfeeding at some point – perhaps when I had to give up all dairy and caffeine because she couldn’t tolerate it in my milk, or maybe once I realized she would never take a bottle and all the milk I pumped would go to waste. It was a year of sacrifice and joy, tears and laughter, pain and love, and I would do it 10 times over again, just to hold her tightly against my body and know I was giving her the best that nature has to offer.
Breastfeeding and pumping moms are nothing less than warriors. It takes a village not only to raise a child, but also to support a breastfeeding mom. That’s why Breastfeeding Bliss was born – to provide breastfeeding and pumping moms with practical tips and advice, uplifting inspiration, and the best breastfeeding products on the market. Some of these products are my personal favorites and things I couldn’t do without when I was breastfeeding, and some are newer, improved products that have since been introduced. I hope you find a little bit of joy by spending time with us in some way, and I hope you know you’re not alone on this journey! Please feel free to call or email me at any time if you have a question, need another mama’s advice, or just need a listening ear. I’m here for you!
