If you saw the report in the news last week or read my recent post, discrimination against breastfeeding mothers is still prevalent for millions of workers. In addition to verbal abuse and lewd remarks, these women don’t have the basic accommodations needed to pump – including a private space that’s not a bathroom.
Enter Mamava. This innovative company creates portable lactation spaces that look like futuristic pods with a happy face painted on the door. Available in a variety of sizes and materials, each lockable pod is equipped with two benches, a collapsible table, AC and USB power outlets, and extra space for luggage, a stroller, or another person. The Mamava SmartLock + Locator app allows moms to determine if there’s a Mamava lactation space nearby and to unlock the pod with the press of a button.
This is such a great solution for public places and buildings where it’s difficult and costly to renovate a space specifically for breastfeeding and pumping moms. The moms who have used them have been thrilled with the clean, well-designed accommodations and relieved to have a private place to nurse or pump that’s not a stinky bathroom stall. Now there’s no excuse for all employers and public places to designate a private space for breastfeeding mothers! #progress
